Recycle Your Dress

Do you have an old bridesmaid, prom or other fancy dress sitting in your closet? Well, bring it down to GreenBeing on Monday Oct 13th from 10am-3pm for a design consultation with Nicole Kulp, reconstructionist extraordinaire. She cuts, hems, dyes, paints and completely revamps your dress into a brand new piece. You can have a completely one-of-a-kind dress for the holiday season. Also, check out some of her reconstructed dresses at GreenBeing right now.

GreenBeing IS NOW A STORE

You're probably familiar with GreenBeing the eco-handbag line but did you know that GreenBeing IS NOW A STORE in Downtown Scranton on Adams Avenue (just across the street from The Bog) opening in early October?

GreenBeing will be the first Eco-Boutique in the area...like a real, live Etsy store combined with beautiful, new eco-fashion, accessories, home decor and....interesting events!

GreenBeing will host lots of local green designers (yes, lots of local green designers exist) and plans to function also as an arts/events space. I will keep you updated on this exciting news as it develops. Below are some pics of the transformation of the space. I'll keep you posted!

Smart Girls Shop Handmade...A First Friday Recap

I had the pleasure of being part of an amazing First Friday with a great group of artistic and entrepreneurial women - Andrea Talarico - (our host and owner of Anthology New and Used Books), Amanda Vonson-Fernandez (owner of Magpie Vintage and designer of Oh Sweet Josephine reconstructed vintage jewelry), and Cristin Powers (designer of GreenBeing-THE LABEL- and owner of Greenbeing-THE STORE- opening next month in Scranton). The four of us collaborated on an event entitled "A Collection of Eco-Functional Art" which turned out pretty damnn awesome...a gorgeous space, eco-accessories, loads of good books, good live music and yummy organic food...oh yeah, and lots of wine. If you missed the event, you should still stop by Anthology as our exhibit will be up for the next few weeks.

Unfortunately, I missed a bunch of other really great exhibits that I really would have loved to see...such as Tomlynn Fallon at Mark's Tattoo, Lealeawashere* and A Slave to the Details at Duffy Accessories as well as others. Here are some pics of our event...hopefully I will have more to post soon...

Duffy Fashion Show Report

After a brief downpour, the Duffy 80's Theme Fashion Show still turned out to be a blast. Sassy models (my personal fave was Constance of Third) in platform wigs showed some amazing Duffy jewelry. Also, equally exciting....there were lots of very talented artists and designers on hand selling their handmade creations. Here are a few pics...

Your Submissions

I am interested in finding out about all things handmade in Scranton (as well as beyond). Please send me your updates. I will gladly add them to my calender. I plan to photograph and blog about the Duffy Fashion Show and future events. Stay tuned!

OUCH!!

It's been two full months and I've been up to my eyelashes in vintage handbags and new ideas. I do truly intend for this blog to be updated weekly...and hopefully it will from now forward. Next event...The Duffy Accessory 80's Theme Fashion Show on Friday...8-8-08. I couldn't be more excited as I loooove the 80's. Also, it's Maureen Duffy's 20th year in business and she makes lovely handmade jewelry and fabulous green teatinis. Besides a fashion show, there will be several local artists vending their work including moi (Shoplift!), Greenbeing, Mapgie Vintage and her line of Oh Sweet Josephine reconstructed vintage jewelry, Kelly Langan and her handpainted shoes, and soooo much more. Music by Brian Langan. Food by local vendors. After-party? Well, just ask me at the show!

Here's the flyer...designed by Brian Langan.

First Post

I've been meaning to start this blog for a while now. There is so much going on in the area and I'm sick of having to rummage through pages and pages of what's going on at Tink's to find out what's really going on. This blog is about people who make stuff, be it art, music, or cookies. I promised to be totally biased, so here are a few of my favorite things going on in Scranton this very moment:

magpieonmain.com (Miss Amanda, who never ceases to inspire me. Check out her Oh Sweet Josephine reconstructed vintage jewelery, handbag (and now clothing) line)
shopgreenbeing.com (Cristin, for fashionistas who want to get their green on)
http://www.myspace.com/leopardlibido ("home of the true SCRANTON sound")

And there are so many more. But, I'll start with this.
